Just a Drop is a global charity that aims to provide clean water and sanitation around the world where they are most badly needed. It raises money to build wells, install hand pumps and carry out health and sanitation programmes to provide clean, accessible water. It is a small charity with a big heart and an irrepressible aim to work in desperately deprived areas that others often shun, and one which has saved thousands of children’s lives worldwide.
Here are some examples of what Just a Drop has achieved:
- In Cambodia, we built 50 new wells in nine villages, restored five other wells and launched a community health programme.
- In North East India, we helped the isolated village of Riangmaw by providing a new water system to pump water 60m up a slope.
- In Bolivia, we worked with the Scientific Exploration Society to supply a new pricing system to the 8,000 people living in the villages of Vallegrande.
- In Afganistan, we worked in partnership with the Scientific Exploration Society to provide the Khanabad Emergency Obstetric Clinic with fresh clean water.
- In Africa and Asia women walk an average of 6km a day just to collect water for their families and while the average family in Europe spends £1,000 on a two-week summer holiday, in the developing world it costs just £1 to supply water to a child for nearly ten years.
Even if everyone only gives a little, Just a Drop has proved that collectively we can make a huge difference. But we can only carry on the work if funding is available and we try as much as possible to help, advise and support all those who take Just a Drop to their heart and raise money for us.
