‘There is no better setting than a trade show to get a feel for a certain market’
‘With two months to go before the event, 98% of all available exhibition space has been contracted for.’
For the first time, Expo Reclam will open on a Tuesday, Tuesday, 26 January. What is the reason for this change?
The event has traditionally taken place in February. Along with holding Expo Reclam in January, we thought it appropriate to also hold the trade show from Tuesday to Thursday in order to avoid Friday, which, due to its proximity to the weekend, is normally slower in terms of visitor volume.
The dates have been moved up to the last week in January, which was something many companies had been requesting for a long time. What advantages does that offer?
Expo Reclam marks the kick-off for exhibitor companies’ annual catalogues and associated new items. If the trade show is moved up a few weeks, it is no longer necessary to wait until February to present new products in our country. Besides, the majority of these have been presented at PSI in Düsseldorf and the Spanish market will learn about the exclusives presented in Germany just one week later.
As of today, what figures do the organisers of Expo Reclam have for exhibitor companies and registered visitors?
We currently have 241 exhibitors confirmed and 7,700 net m2 of exhibition space, which is 98% of the total area available. In terms of visitors, with two months to go before the event, more than 3,000 professional dealers have already registered. These numbers speak of Expo Reclam’s strength as the second more important show in Europe after PSI in Düsseldorf and the meeting place for promotional gifts in our country.
Besides dates, what other new elements will Expo Reclam 2010 feature?
Both exhibitors and visitors will find many new things at the show. However, I would like to emphasise that Expo Reclam is positioning itself as an information sharing instrument for exhibitors and visitors. Through our monthly newsletter, we enable the supply and demand sides to make contact in order to promote these articles, products and new items among potential customers.
In your judgement, to what does the upcoming Expo Reclam 2010 owe its success?
There are many factors which have an influence: personalised service for exhibitors, promotion in the trade press, etc. However, I would especially like to highlight visitor professionalism as the heart of the event’s success. Only promotional gift dealers can attend the trade show and although this requires a lot of effort on the part of the team responsible, as we ask all companies that register to provide a copy of their tax return, the result is excellent. Exhibitors at Expo Reclam only want to see a certain audience at the trade show and we guarantee them of this.
In a situation like the present, do you think that attending a trade show is perhaps more important than ever for visitors and exhibitors?
From my point of view, today trade shows should be required attendance for any company in any sector. Economic uncertainty forces businesses to stay up-to-date and learn first-hand what companies’ new items and strategies are. There is no better setting than a trade show to get a feel for a certain market.
As an expert in the world of promotional gifts, what is your opinion of the sector today, both in this country and abroad?
I think that the promotional gift sector, like other sectors in our country, is undergoing a process of adapting to the environment which in some cases may be very critical. At Expo Reclam we want to support all the companies in attendance at the show and our aim is to act as an agent for integrating and strengthening the promotional and advertising industry.
